  59        The <STRONG>beep</STRONG> and <STRONG>flash</STRONG> routines are used to alert the terminal
  60        user.  The routine <STRONG>beep</STRONG> sounds an  audible  alarm  on  the
  61        terminal,  if  possible;  otherwise  it flashes the screen
  62        (visible bell).  The routine <STRONG>flash</STRONG> flashes the screen, and
  63        if  that  is  not  possible, sounds the alert.  If neither
  64        alert is possible, nothing happens.  Nearly all  terminals
  65        have  an  audible  alert (bell or beep), but only some can
  66        flash the screen.
