20 <H2>DESCRIPTION</H2><PRE>
21 The <B>beep</B> and <B>flash</B> routines are used to alert the terminal
22 user. The routine <B>beep</B> sounds an audible alarm on the
23 terminal, if possible; otherwise it flashes the screen
24 (visible bell). The routine <B>flash</B> flashes the screen, and
25 if that is not possible, sounds the alert. If neither
26 alert is possible, nothing happens. Nearly all terminals
27 have an audible alert (bell or beep), but only some can

33 These routines return <B>OK</B> if they succeed in beeping or
34 flashing, <B>ERR</B> otherwise.
38 <H2>EXTENSIONS</H2><PRE>
39 SVr4's beep and flash routines always returned <B>OK</B>, so it
40 was not possible to tell when the beep or flash failed.
